Germantown home invaders took safe, other valuables

http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2007/dec/07/germantown-couple-bound-home-invasion/

Unanswered questions!!!!
Although I am pretty sure the couple is not lying about what happened, don't you think it is a little strange that nothing was given about the identity of the criminals? In the article the home owner said, "police have a “lot of interviewing” to do because of the number of housekeeping and other service people the couple hire. He said the home invasion was not random and that the homeowner had been specifically targeted." Maybe they should begin by asking for a description of the robbers. It is poosible that someone might have seen them in the area. I doesn't make me feel safe when I know that there was a break in about twenty minutes from my house, but I am unaware of who to watch out for.

Tigers climb to No. 2 in AP poll

It's the third time U of M ranked that high
http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2007/dec/03/tiger-climb-no-2-ap-poll/
The University of Memphis's basketball team has great expectations this year. This is only the third time they have been ranked in the Associated Press Top 25. Both of the last times they have been ranked, they lost to Virginia Tech. I believe that the U of M men's basketball team will fill the shoes that have been given to them this year. They will not let anyone down. The team did very well last year and they have been working on things from last year. Their record so far this year is great and will only continue to get better.

Sheriff busts marijuana operation

http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2007/dec/03/sheriff-busts-marijuana-operation/

"Shelby County sheriff’s deputies arrested six men and confiscated more than 1,200 pounds of marijuana last weekend." Drugs are more common than they need to be. It seems like every where you turn there is some kind of drug being used. Drugs need to be controlled, and the only way to help control them is if law enforcement tries to stop the spread of drugs, through manufacture and resell. When drugs are on the street, they are available for young teens and young adults to get a hold of. Drugs are very dangerous and i am grateful to see that the law enforcement officers busted a drug deal of this size.

Stabbing

http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2007/nov/06/stabbing-whitehaven/
This article is very short, but it really made me take a look at the world I live in today. Although this is only one stabbing and not a massacre, it still seems so wrong. The world has become a place where crime is normal and always expected. I have heard many stories about when my parents were kids and they didn't have to worry about half of the stuff I deal with today. I moved to Memphis from a small town and I'm still getting used to the fact that I have to watch every move I make: everything has to be locked, don't go certain places at night, and never leave something in plain view in your car. The city is completely different from my hometown. My hometown is not perfect. There is crime happening there everyday. I am really concerned with where the world is heading and how fast it is going there. We are in a downward spiral, and I don't see any slowing down in the future. What goes on today worries me about what might be going on when I have kids.

Fugative Escapes

http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2007/nov/06/marshal-kills-desoto-fugitive/
I feel that there are so many different things wrong with the United States Justice system. Criminal are caught, put in jail, and then they escape. The prisons are supposed to be designed to prevent the criminal that are put in jail from excaping, but as easy as it was for these two men, makes me believe that proper procedures are not being followed. "I think we need to take a hard look at the policies and procedures on how things are done in the jail," he said.(Blackson) Knowing that criminals are being locked away keeps me at peace of mind, but reading this article and seeing how easy it was for them to just walk out makes me worry.

When is it ok to answer?

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/30/weekinreview/30belson.html
Four Score and ... Mind if I Take This?

Personally I think it was very rude for Rudy Giuliani to answer his phone while he was speaking for the National Rifel Association. Regardless of who you are speaking for it is unacceptable to answer your phone during a speech. "Or he might have orchestrated the call, as some critics are saying, to lighten his image."- I do not believe he answered to lighten his image. Who thinks of something like that? He answered because cell phones are becoming to important for American life, and people are so attached they are forgetting when it is appropriate and when it isn't to answer a phone.

Prayer on the field

After a Hard Hit, Kneeling in Prayer
I have always seen football as a rough sport. I enjoy watching, but I get chills when I see the players go down hard after a big hit. This article has a lot of meaning and shows the real people that wear those uniforms we see every weekend. All of the NFL players are big and look mean, and you would think they wouldn't give a care in the world who they hurt. But reading this article and see the two teams come together to pray for an injured player in the middle of the game, shows the heart that they really have. Chris Kelsay refers to them as the gentle giants, after reading this I would believe it.
